I have been in prison almost 16 years serving a life sentence for a murder I did not do. Often, I find myself contemplating my confinement. Like, how did I get here? How do you get convicted if you’re innocent is a rhetorical question that even I have trouble answering.
Wrongful conviction goes against everything we profess to believe in our society. To be falsely accused of something is absolutely appalling. Like every wrongfully convicted people, I too believed that the system would just work itself out since in fact I knew I didn’t do it so “I couldn’t be found guilty.” Each day I do my best to awake and approach my day positively.
